Proofreading: Watch This Space

(Please note that this site is under construction!!! Things will change soon)
Are you looking for an old-fashioned human proofreading service? I think that you may be a dying breed, but in any case there are possibly still a few people who prefer a human to a machine. I spent many years in the academic world, and subsequently an equal number of years teaching English, so I'm in a pretty good position to go through any English text, academic or otherwise, with a fine-toothed comb. As long as I have reasonable advanced notice, I am able to plough through any text in super quick time. I won't be as fast as ChatGPT, but I also won't behave like a machine that can be detected by some software.
Sooooo, if you are in that position, go ahead and get in touch. In the following section you will find samples of work that I corrected in the past.
The way that I charge for proofreading works like this: I would ask you to send as much of your writing as you currently have, in order for me to look at several samples, and make a balanced assessment of how much time the work will take. Charging by the hour doesn't work for proofreading, of course. My preferred method is to have several rates which I will charge per thousand words of text. More on that later. It's WORK IN PROGRESS here 👷
While the site is still in development, I'd like to ask my allies and friends (and newcoming sympathetic parties :~) to help me out a bit. Contrary to what you may have understood from advertising that you've heard on podcasts or elsewhere, creating a beautiful website, which you can maintain and update for years to come, without paying endless exhorbitant rent, is no trivial process. I've done all of this by myself, and I'm quite proud of that. But the job isn't done yet. There are still decisions to be made about fonts and colours schemes for this site, and for the others which I have been working on. Find them all here. I had a chat the other day with ChatGPT and Deepseek about suitable fonts for this site and the others. I've got a few in mind. Check them out here, and let me know which you prefer.
Here's a very very simple form, which will of course become something a bit more fancy eventually, but for now you can use it to send me a message:
